Description

This is a pair of houses, numbers 27 and 29 Clifton Crescent, built around the middle of the 19th century in Folkestone. The buildings are three storeys high, with a basement and attics, and are faced with stucco. They have slate mansard roofs with four dormers; number 27 has a double dormer and an additional attic storey.

The front elevation has two sash windows and two three-light windows in each bay. Rusticated quoins mark the corners, and string courses divide the floors. The second-floor windows are round-headed. The ground-floor windows have architraves; the central windows of each bay are crowned with pediments, while the side windows have cornices. Iron flower guards are positioned on the ground and first-floor windows, and the ground-floor windows have cambered heads with keystones. Simple, round-headed doorcases are set within a three-storey extension and have rusticated surrounds. A porch has been added to number 27.

Numbers 27 and 29 are part of a group which includes numbers 1 to 11 (odd) and number 12B, as well as numbers 15 to 31 (odd).
