Description

Probably dating to the late 16th century, 78 Fore Street is a four-storey timber-framed building. The front of the building has overhanging upper floors at each level, and features two gables. An 18th-century bay with a slate roof projects from the ground floor. While much of the timberwork visible on the front facade has been replaced, the leaded casement windows are believed to be original. One wall of the porch is decorated with 17th-century painted Dutch tiles gathered from various older houses in Topsham. The roof is slate-covered. The building contributes to the group value of the listed buildings along Fore Street.
