Description

This gateway, located approximately 50 metres south-west of Rydon House, dates from the early 19th century and is contemporary with the house. It is constructed from roughly squared blocks of volcanic stone arranged in rough courses, with some volcanic ashlar detailing. The gateway features a pair of square piers positioned at the roadside, from which lower quadrant walls curve inward. These walls are topped with flat coping, and the piers are square in section, each capped with banded ball finials.
