Description
The gateway and front boundary wall to Rylstone House, dating from the mid-19th century, consists of gates, gate piers, a wall, and railings. The gates and railings are made of cast and wrought iron, while the wall is constructed from coursed squared gritstone. The overall length of the structure is approximately 20 metres, with the wall and railing running parallel to the north front of the house. At the east end, the wall curves to form two flanking walls around the gateway. The low wall is composed of 2 to 4 courses, and the railing beside the gates features urn finials on the standards, with diamond and fleur de lis finials on alternate rails. The open-work piers display quatrefoil motifs in panels, and the double gates are ramped with bars and dog bars, also featuring quatrefoils on the lock rail and finials similar to those on the railings. There are 20th-century replacement railings in the main frontage that are not of special interest. This structure is included for its group value.
