Description

Rylstone Lodge is a house dating from the mid-to-late 18th century. It is constructed from coursed squared gritstone rubble with a graduated stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has three bays. Rusticated quoins mark the corners. A half-glazed door, added in the 20th century, is situated to the right, set within a plain surround with a cornice. Original sash windows with glazing bars are found throughout, set within slightly projecting stone surrounds. The end stacks are corniced, with the stack to the right being square and featuring four flues.

Inside, the entrance hall features a reset built-in cupboard with display shelves to the left. The rear stair-hall contains a fine staircase with three straight flights. The handrail is ramped and supported by knopped column-on-vase balusters, with a single column at the base. A rear corridor likely originally provided access to what are now the service rooms of Lodge Cottage (listed separately).
