Description

Yew Tree Farmhouse is a house dating from 1670, with alterations made in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It is constructed of gritstone rubble with a graduated stone slate roof. The house is two storeys high and has two bays. It features quoins. A 20th-century board door is located on the far left side, set within a moulded quoined surround; this moulding extends over the triangular doorhead. A recessed plaque above the door bears the inscription "1670 C B" in evenly spaced raised letters. The windows are recessed and have chamfered mullions with 6 and 7 lights on the ground floor and 4 and 3 lights above. Each floor has a central king mullion in the left-hand window, and a continuous string course runs along the first-floor level. A corniced ashlar stack is situated on the right side of the building. The interior was not inspected during a recent survey. The original stack was likely positioned opposite the entrance, and was altered when the roof was replaced. The carved detail, particularly the king mullions and string course, are considered to be notable features for a house of this size.
