Description

Rylstone House is an early to mid-19th century house located on the south side of Raikes Lane. The house is constructed of coursed squared grey gritstone with a grey slate roof. It is two storeys high and has three bays. The facade features rusticated quoins. The central entrance has a six-panel door surmounted by a fanlight with interlaced glazing bars, flanked by pilasters, dosserets with paterae, and an open pediment. Large, three-light windows are located on the ground floor; these consist of a central sash with glazing bars flanked by narrower eight-pane sashes, set within plain surrounds. A first-floor band supports three sashes with glazing bars in slightly projecting surrounds. The building features a moulded eaves cornice with a blocking course and a raised central plaque. Gable copings and corniced end stacks are present, along with a large stack on the rear of the ridge, to the right of centre. The interior was not inspected during a resurvey.
