Description
Marks Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the 16th or 17th century. It is constructed of plastered cob on stone rubble footings, with a cob or stone rubble stack topped by a brick chimney shaft, and has a slate roof that was formerly thatched. The farmhouse has a three-room-and-through-passage layout and faces west. The left (north) end serves as the inner room, while the next section is the former hall, which features a front projecting lateral stack and a projecting window bay. The service end room is located across the passage at the right (south) end. Although an internal inspection was not possible during the survey, it is likely that the house began as some form of open hall house in the 16th century. The building is now two storeys high.
The exterior has an irregular two-window front with 19th and 20th century casements that include glazing bars, with the left windows located in the hall bay. Similar windows are present on the other sides of the building. The passage front doorway is positioned to the right of centre and features a likely 19th century part-glazed plank door. The main roof is gable-ended. While the interior could not be inspected during the survey, it is reported to contain old beams and similar features.
