Description
Perkey Pool Cottage is a cottage dating from the 16th or 17th century, with alterations made in the late 19th to early 20th century. It is constructed of plastered cob on stone rubble footings, with the north-east wall built of brick from the late 19th to early 20th century, and features a thatched roof. The cottage has a two-room plan that faces south-east, with a through-passage between the rooms. The larger room on the right has an axial stack that backs onto the passage. Although the interior was not inspected during the survey, it is believed to contain 16th or 17th century carpentry, including a jointed cruck truss roof structure. The right (north-east) end wall has been rebuilt in brick, suggesting that the house may have originally been a three-room-and-through-passage plan, possibly with an open hall. The exterior features an irregular two-window front with likely 20th century casements that have a diamond pane leaded glass effect. The front doorway of the passage is located left of center, is quite large, and contains a 20th century plank door with a contemporary thatch-roofed porch.
