Description

Slewton Cottage is a cottage dating from the mid to late 17th century, with later 20th-century alterations. The walls are plastered cob, resting on stone rubble footings, with a stone rubble or cob stack topped with 20th-century brick and a thatched roof. Originally, the cottage was a simple two-room plan facing south-east, with a gable-end stack in the left (south-west) room. The cottage has two storeys, with a 20th-century extension added to the right-hand end. The front elevation has a late 19th and 20th-century appearance with casement windows containing glazing bars. A late 19th-century plank door is set within the front doorway towards the left end, flanked by 20th-century raking buttresses. The rear wall features a blocked central doorway, believed to be the original entrance. The roof is gable-ended on the left and half-hipped on the right. Inside, both rooms have deep, chamfered axial beams. The fireplace is blocked. The roof space was not inspected during the survey.
