Description

Aller Grove Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the mid to late 17th century and was renovated in the late 19th to early 20th century. It is constructed of plastered cob on stone rubble footings, with the front faced or rebuilt using white-washed brick from the late 19th to early 20th century. The cottage features cob or stone rubble stacks topped with brick from the 19th and 20th centuries, and it has a thatched roof.

The house faces southeast and appears to have a modernized three-room-and-central-service-room layout. The parlour is located on the left (southwest) and has a gable-end stack, while the kitchen is on the right and includes a projecting end stack with an oven housing. The cottage has two storeys and a 20th-century lean-to outshot on the right end.

The exterior has an irregular four-window front with 20th-century casements that include glazing bars. The front doorway is slightly left of center and features a 20th-century door with a contemporary hood. The main roof is gable-ended on the left and hipped on the right. The interior was not available for inspection during the survey, but it is reported to be largely the result of late 19th and 20th-century modernizations, with original carpentry suspected to be concealed by later plaster.
