Description

Corner Stores Cottage and Silhouettes is a cottage that dates from the 18th and 19th centuries, with 20th-century additions. It is constructed of plastered cob and stone rubble, featuring stone rubble stacks topped with 19th and 20th-century brick. The oldest part of the cottage has a thatched roof, while the rest has a slate roof. The building has a two-room plan arranged on a north-south axis, with the southern end room being the oldest section, likely a single-room plan cottage from the 18th century that faces north and has a rear lateral stack. In the 19th century, an extension was added to the front, turning the house to face east; this extension included the main stair and a room to the right with a gable-end stack. In the 20th century, a lean-to outshot was added to the east of the 18th-century section, which is now known as Corner Stores, while the outshots at the rear of the 19th-century extension are now referred to as Silhouettes. The main house is two storeys tall and has an irregular exterior. The front features a two-window arrangement of 19th and 20th-century casements with glazing bars, and the front doorway to the left contains a 20th-century panelled door. The 19th-century extension has a gable-ended slate roof, while the thatched roof of the older section has a crossing to the left and is hipped at both ends. The interior has not been inspected. This irregular arrangement of buildings complements a group of thatch-roofed cottages located nearby to the west.
