Description

A row of three cottages dating from the mid to late 19th century, situated on Whimple Square alongside the churchyard to the south. The cottages are constructed of plastered cob on stone rubble, with some parts possibly rebuilt in stone rubble or brick. They feature brick stacks and chimneyshafts, and have slate roofs. The plan consists of three contemporary cottages, each originally one room wide and two rooms deep. Number 1, at the western end, has a gable-end stack. Number 2 is a mirror-image of Number 1 and shares an axial stack in the party wall with Number 3. Number 3, at the eastern end, has a lobby entrance and a stack. The exterior presents an irregular five-window front with 19th and 20th-century casement windows, some with glazing bars, and 20th-century doors. The roofs are gable-ended. The cottages form a pleasant group with the Church of St Mary.
