Description
Thatch is a cottage dating from the 17th or 18th century. It is constructed of plastered cob on stone rubble footings, with stone rubble stacks that may also include cob, and plastered brick chimney shafts. The roof is thatched. The cottage has a three-room plan facing southeast. The left room features a gable-end stack, the center room has an axial stack that backs onto the right room, which contains a rear lateral stack. There is an entrance directly into the right room, but the main entrance and lobby are located between the other two rooms. An internal inspection was not possible during the survey, so the historic development of the house remains unclear; it may have originally been two 18th-century cottages or an earlier farmhouse. The cottage is two storeys high and has an irregular three-window front with late 19th and 20th-century casements, the most recent of which lack glazing bars. Both doors are from the 20th century, with the right door featuring a 20th-century gabled porch. The roof has a gable end on the left and is hipped on the right. Although the interior was not inspected, it is reported to include old beams and carpentry.
