Description

The premises occupied by H T Scratchley, an auctioneer, is part of an early 19th-century row located on the east side of Fore Street, dating back to 1633. This building is low with two storeys and is faced with stucco. It features a low-pitched gable end slate roof with bracketed eaves. There is one window on the front; a recessed sash window on the first floor set in a broad frame, with intact glazing bars. The ground floor includes a canted bay with sash lights, a moulded sill, a stucco base, a frieze, and a cornice. A blind case runs across the sill of the first-floor window. The entrance consists of a recessed glazed door with a bottom panel and a narrow blind rectangular fanlight above it. This building, along with the premises occupied by C E Green, a fruiterer, and Gainsborough House Antiques, forms a group.
