Description
Lyndon House, located at 23 Fore Street, is a row of four three-storey houses built around 1830-1840, with the two central houses treated as one. The exterior is faced with stucco and features a parapet with coping. There are full-height incised panelled pilaster strips and a total of seven windows, although the center window is blind. The inner windows on No 23 and Stead and Simpson are single sashes, while the others are tripartite, with most retaining their glazing bars. The windows are set within comber-headed arches that have incised multiple key-stones and thin block sills.
The shop fronts have been modernized, with No 23 and Lyndon House displaying a delicate Victorian shop front featuring thin panelled pilasters and fluted brackets supporting a dentil cornice and fascia board. The left side has a narrow window, while the right side has a wide window, with a door set back in between that has a glazed bottom panel and a rectangular fanlight above. A tracery band runs across the doorhead and extends over the windows. Stead and Simpson has a modern shop front. This group of buildings also includes the Herald Office, The Spinning Wheel, and the Irish Tobacconist.
