Description
Peter's Tower is a clock tower built in 1885 by W H Peters, Esq., as a memorial to his wife's kindness and sympathy for the poor of Lympstone. The tower is constructed of red brick, featuring decorative yellow brick quoins, bands, cogged cornices, and a crenellated parapet with machicolations. It has four stages, each smaller than the one below, topped with a pyramidal slate cap that includes gabled and louvred belfry openings. The tower has clocks on the east and west sides, with the west clock facing the estuary to inform fishermen of the tide's schedule. The windows are set under segmental arches, and the east door is adorned with a steep gable and Beerstone capitals, along with chamfered jambs and a lintel. Peter's Tower is prominently situated above Lympstone beach.
