Description
The Clock Tower is a clock tower built in 1905 by Cressey and Keighley, located on Marine Road Central in Morecambe. It is constructed of red brick with sandstone banding and dressings. The tower has a square plan above a cruciform base, featuring corner buttresses. The lowest stage includes bench seats sheltered by lead canopies. Above this, there are 3-light mullioned windows set beneath gablets. Each side of the clock stage has a lozenge window, and the clock stage itself is made of sandstone, supported by corner corbels. The circular clock face openings are adorned with keystones, and the structure is topped with a tent roof and a metal finial. On the seaward side, there are inscriptions that read: 'Presented by John Robert Birkett Esq JP Mayor 1903 to 1906', and 'Cressey and Keighley, Architects'.
