Description
Barclays Bank is a bank building dating from around 1900, located on Euston Road in Morecambe. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar and features a steep red tile roof, showcasing a Bavarian or Swiss architectural style. The building has three storeys along with two attic storeys. Its two facades are adorned with moulded string courses, a frieze above the ground floor, and a cornice. The bays are separated by semi-octagonal buttresses. Most of the windows have a single light below a transom and two or three lights above. The attic storeys are topped with finials. A canted corner is highlighted by a tiled spire with a lead finial. Above the corner doorway, which now has a late 20th-century aluminium-framed door, there is a timber window set back behind stone mullions, along with a carved frieze featuring a bird within an oval panel. The building has two chimneys on its roof, which runs in an east-west direction.
