Description

Burcombe Manor is a farmhouse dated 1865, built for Lord Herbert of Wilton. It is constructed from limestone ashlar with Welsh slate roofs and features diagonally-set ashlar stacks. The building has two parallel ranges with gable ends facing the front. It is two stories tall with an attic and has a four-window front. The central entrance consists of a double-panelled door with a Tudor arch, flanked by sidelights within a Gothic-style porch that has octagonal pilasters and a parapet. The porch displays the date and initials PMH. To the left of the entrance is a canted bay with plate glass sashes set in mullioned surrounds, while to the right is a three-light mullioned sash with a hoodmould. On the first floor, there are three-light mullioned sashes at each gable and two smaller sashes in the center. The attic features gabled half-dormer sashes. The left side of the building has two tall mullioned sashes on the ground floor and pairs or single sashes on the first floor. The rear includes a two-storey canted bay with sashes on the right and a first-floor oriel with sashes on the left. Attached to the right is a two-storey service wing with planked doors and small sashes. The interior retains original joinery and marble fireplaces, making it a fine example of a model farmhouse from the Wilton Estate.
