Description

43 Castle Street is a building that dates back to the 17th century but was refaced in the early 19th century. It stands three storeys tall, with the upper floors rendered and the ground floor made of new brick. The bressumer is boarded in a moulded style and was formerly jettied. The front features a low-pitched gable end slate roof with flat eaves. There is one window on the upper floors, which are flush framed sashes, and two later windows on the ground floor.

At the rear, there is a passage leading to a section of 17th-century brick that survives, along with some 18th-century sashes and casements on the side, where the building slightly overhangs and is tile hung. The west garden front has a hipped gable end that has been rendered. There is an early 19th-century four-light window with central French casements that opens onto a small terrace, which features a wrought iron balustrade and steps leading down to the garden.
