Description
41 Castle Street is a late 18th century to early 19th century building that stands three storeys tall and is constructed of red brick with chamfered stone quoins. It features a moulded wood cornice supported by paired cut brackets and has a stone blocking course. The upper floors have three recessed sash windows with intact glazing bars. On the ground floor, two former early 19th century shop fronts have been removed and replaced with a modern fascia that covers the original frieze and cornice. However, the slender engaged Doric columns remain, along with a passage door to the right, which has six flush panels and a rectangular fanlight with semi-circular and radial glazing bars added. The rear elevation includes three windows, with the center window being blind, and features flush framed sashes with glazing bars, along with a centrally located doorway topped by a pedimented hood. No 41 to 49 (odd) form a group.
