Description

Southend Cottage is a cottage dating from the early 17th century and early 19th century. It is constructed of sarsen stone, with the left bay being timber framed and tile hung on a sarsen sill. The cottage has a thatched roof and is a single storey with an attic, consisting of four bays. The three bays on the right feature two panelled doors set within trellis porches and four flush dormers. All windows are 19th century timber casements with exposed timber lintels. The left bay is likely part of a timber framed house that extends north-south beyond the main stack and connects with No 3 Southend. The roof is half-hipped at both ends. Inside, there is a new fireplace in the west bay with an attached stair, which is dated 1699. The handrail features billet decoration. There is a bolection fireplace on the first floor of the west bay, which is not currently visible and has likely been removed.
