Description
South End House is a house dating from the late 16th to early 17th century, with later 17th-century alterations. It is constructed of sarsen stone with brick dressings and limestone quoins. The main structure is a single storey and attic, featuring three bays and a large stack situated between the first and second bays. The entrance is located in the second bay, accessed through an open porch. The doors and windows are 20th-century stained timber with diamond leading.
To the right is a cross wing that has two unequal bays, originally single storey and attic, which was increased to two storeys in the late 17th century. The framing at both gables was replaced in the 18th or early 19th century, with three panels high framing that includes ogee corner braces supporting a butt purlin roof. The added storey features close studding with ogee tension braces and jowled posts. The interior was modernised around 1971, and a link to the garage was added around 1980.
