Description

The Old Malthouse is a house dating from the 17th to 18th century. It features an ashlar front, with a plastered first floor and rusticated ground floor, while the sides and rear are made of rubblestone. The roof is covered with stone slates, and the right wing has a hipped roof. The building is designed in an L-shape and is two stories tall, with a three-window front and a projecting wing on the right. A central Classical porch leads to a six-panelled door, and the windows are 12-pane sashes. There is a plat band at the top of the rusticated ground floor, along with a panelled frieze, cornice, and a plain parapet. The right wing also has a rusticated ground floor and plat band, with one 20-pane sash window on each floor. This wing lacks a parapet but features a hipped roof with one hipped dormer and small ball finials. At the rear of the right wing is a late 17th-century range made of rubblestone, which has two stories and an attic. It includes three windows with two and three-light ovolo moulded mullions, as well as some cyma moulded mullions. The rear of the left range has two sash windows. There is a flat-roofed 20th-century extension at the rear that is not included in the listing. The house has been subdivided into three separate living spaces. The interior has not been inspected.
