Description

Castle Hill House is a house dating back to the 17th century, which was significantly altered in the 18th century with later modifications. It is constructed of random rubble, with brickwork visible on the left return. The house has a moulded wooden cornice, a rendered parapet with a plain coping, and a hipped slate roof to the main front elevation. The rear wing features a double span roof covered in slate and pantile, with brick stacks, the centre stack being the largest.

The two-storey, four-bay facade features virtually flush-mounted 12-pane sash windows with rendered lintels. Some dressed stone remains on the window jambs, likely remnants of earlier window openings incorporated into the current facade. Relieving arches are positioned above the left two ground floor openings. A six-panelled door, the top two panels glazed, is set within a wooden doorcase featuring a triangular pediment supported by engaged three-quarter Tuscan columns.

Inside, there are some original wooden shutters, a fireplace in the left ground floor room with a substantial wooden bressumer, and 18th-century doors and chair railings. A single-storey outshut to the left of the front is not of particular interest.
