Description

Nos 6 and 6A Church Street is an early 18th-century building that stands two storeys high, with part of it featuring an attic. The structure includes a formal and dignified wing on the right side, which projects to the left of No 4, and an obtrusive, possibly older section on the left. The right wing is constructed of brick and has full-height angle stone pilasters. It features a moulded stone string above the ground floor windows, a moulded stone cornice, and a brick parapet with moulded stone coping. The roof is hipped and covered with old tiles, and there are gable end brick chimneys. A single casement dormer is present, and the windows are glazing bar sashes set in raised flat stone surrounds with moulded outer and beaded inner edges. Facing the road, there are two ranges of tall windows with stone strings and surrounds, while the ground floor lacks glazing bars. The return towards No 4 has one range of similar windows and a cast lead rainwater head at the angle.

Inside, the building features panelled window seats and shutters. The left section of the building is slightly lower, also two storeys, and is made of red brick with regular header courses. It has a hipped pantile roof on the left side. The glazing bar sash windows have brick flat arches, with two on the first floor and two on the ground floor, the latter being from the 19th century. There are also two doors, one to the right which is an original six-panel door leading to a former through passage, and a later door next to the left-hand window.
