Description
Nos 6 and 6A on High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and dwelling, dating from the 18th century to early 19th century. The building features distinctive diaper brickwork and has a tiled roof. It is two stories high, with an attic and cellar, and consists of five bays, with the left two bays designated for residential use.
The entrance includes a six-panel door framed by a fluted doorcase, with consoles that support a frieze and pediment. The windows are tripartite with 16 panes, featuring gauged brick flat arches, and there are also 16-pane windows on the first floor. The shop area has three bays, with a central pair of half-glazed doors and a wide canopy supported by carved brackets. Flanking the shop are 48-pane 19th-century bow windows topped with a cornice, while the first floor has two 16-pane sash windows. The building is adorned with brick dentilled eaves and has three leaded casement hipped dormers along with gable stacks. There is a 19th-century left wing added to the house and a 20th-century rear extension to the shop.
