Description

No. 7 East Pallant is an 18th-century building that stands two storeys tall with an attic. It has a higher frontage than No. 6 and features an additional storey on the west side. The original section has a tiled gabled roof, a flat-roofed dormer window, and a tall narrow chimney stack at the east end, along with a parapet before the roof. The front is made of red brick. The higher western portion has a tiled hipped roof with overhanging eaves and a dentilled cornice beneath the eaves.

The building has five window bays, including two in the westernmost section, and one window in the third storey on the west side. There is a brick stringcourse above the first floor. The sash windows have segmental heads set in segmental arches, with rubbed brick voussoirs above the ground floor windows and shallower voussoirs for the first floor and attic windows. All windows, except for the two westernmost on the first floor, retain their glazing bars.

A central doorway is accessed by two steps and features a six-panelled door with four fielded panels in the reveals and a rectangular fanlight above. The doorcase is adorned with pilasters and an entablature. The westernmost part of the ground floor has a large window divided into three lights, with a large plate glass central section.

On the western side of the house, which faces South Pallant, there are three storeys with two window bays; however, the northernmost window bay is blocked on all storeys. The sash windows have flush boxes and square heads, with intact glazing bars, and the first floor window has a slightly segmental head. An additional sash window with glazing bars has been inserted in the centre of the ground floor. There is a brick stringcourse that returns above the ground floor.

The portion immediately adjoining to the south, which is next to No. 1 South Pallant, is two storeys high and has a slightly higher frontage than No. 1. It features a gabled asbestos roof and is cement rendered. The first floor window has a flush frame and glazing bars, with weather-boarded surrounds. There is a slightly larger window of a similar type on the ground floor, although it is not vertically aligned. The door has shallow reveals with four flush panels.

Nos. 2 to 7 East Pallant together form a group.
