Description
This is a large, late 18th-century house situated on the south side of East Pallant. It is a three-story building with a parapet, originally featuring five windows (six bays), though a bay is recessed on the east side, containing the front door at ground floor level. The tiled, hipped roof is punctuated by tall, narrow brick stacks at each end. The front of the building is set back behind number 4, facing directly north.
The facade is characterised by a cornice with modillions and a low parapet above. Constructed of red brick, it features windows with flush boxes and intact glazing bars, accentuated by rubbed brick voussoirs. A particularly fine doorway, accessed by four steps, showcases a pair of Ionic columns on each side, with a long, thin window between each pair. A large entablature with moulding to the cornice and a pediment tops the doorway, leading to a six-panelled, moulded door. A side door to the west includes a semi-circular fanlight and its original door.
The south front features a Venetian window on the first floor and a porch supported by Doric columns; the brickwork on this elevation has been renewed. Three bollards, linked by railings, extend in front of the house, returning to the building on either side of the doorway. The attic windows align roughly with the dormer windows of number 4.
The house forms a group with numbers 2 to 7.
