Description
Pallant House, also known as Dodo House, is a Grade I listed building located on the east side of North Pallant in Chichester. Built in 1712 for Henry Peckham, a wine merchant, it features two storeys and seven windows. The exterior is constructed of red brick with brick quoins and intricately carved and rubbed brick voussoirs. A string course runs above the ground floor, and there is a cornice with modillions above the first floor. The building has a panelled parapet and a prominent doorway accessed by nine steps, flanked by Corinthian pilasters, an entablature, and a curved pediment. The entrance includes a six-panel moulded door and a rectangular fanlight. Tall sash windows with flush boxes are set in flat arches, retaining their glazing bars, with narrow windows flanking the doorway and a central window on the first floor. Inside, there is a good staircase and panelling, along with a large round-headed window on the east front staircase. Pallant House is part of a group with Nos 1 to 9, forming a cohesive architectural ensemble.
