Description

Nos 1 and 2 Bury Lane are two semi-detached cottages dating from the mid 17th century, with alterations made in the early 18th century. They are constructed of English garden wall bond brick, with some pebble-dashing, and feature a single Roman tiled roof that has a hip to the left and a half-hip to the right. There is a brick stack located to the left of the center.

The cottages are two stories high and have a three-window east front. No 1 has a planked door set in a lean-to porch on the left, with a 2-light wave-mullioned casement window to the right. No 2 features both a 2-light and a 3-light cyma-mullioned casement window to the right. On the first floor, No 1 has a 2-light mullioned casement, while No 2 has a 2-light and a 3-light casement, with a datestone from 1722 located to the right.

The right side of the building has an entrance to No 2, which is accessed through a 20th-century porch attached to a 20th-century two-story extension. This extension has a part rubble stone wall connected to the main range and a 3-light wooden mullioned window in the attic. At the rear, there are lean-to former wash-houses on the ground floor and an 18th-century two-story wing attached to No 1.

Inside No 2, the interior retains a deep chamfered beam with run-out stops, a reset timber lintel above an open fireplace, and reset late 19th-century stairs.
