Description

Court Lane Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a detached house. It dates from the mid-17th century and was extended in the late 18th century. The building features square-panelled timber-framing with painted brick nogging and a half-hipped thatched roof with brick stacks. It has a baffle entry and is two storeys high with three windows. The central door of the 17th-century section is ledged and studded, with a three-light casement on either side. To the left, there is a 16-pane flush sash window from the 18th century and a segmental-headed opening leading to the cellar. The first floor has two three-light casements and a 16-pane flush sash, with the eaves raised in brick during the 18th century.

The right side of the building has a two-light casement on the ground floor, while the left side features an external stack and a lean-to extension. At the rear, there is a single-storey lean-to extension on the right with a planked door and casements, and the first floor is partly tile-hung with fishscale tiles. To the left, there is an 18th-century single-storey wing with casements and a pantiled roof.

Inside, the farmhouse has deep chamfered beams with jewel and bar stops, an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel on stone jambs, and planked doors. The stairs ascend from the centre room, and the first floor retains exposed timber-framing from the former external wall to the south, along with two bay 17th-century roof timbers below the raised eaves of the 18th-century roof. The 18th-century drawing room to the south contains an original corner cupboard with fielded panelled doors and a dentil frieze. The timber-framing on the front of this house is very similar to that found on Ivy Cottage on Lower Road.
