Description

Manor Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid 17th century, with alterations made in the mid 18th century and 19th century. The building features English bond brick on a rubble stone plinth for the 17th-century section, while the 19th-century section is constructed in Flemish bond brick. It has a tiled roof with stone slate eaves, a hip to the left, and brick stacks. The farmhouse is designed in an L-shape and is two stories high with a three-window south front. This front includes three 3-light ovolo-mullioned casements with hoodmoulds and a 20-pane sash window to the right. The first floor has three 3-light ovolo-mullioned casements with hoodmoulds as well. The right side of the building features a 12-pane sash and a 16-pane sash on the ground floor, with a 3-light casement and a 2-light casement in the attic. Attached to the right is a mid-18th-century rear wing that has a 9-panelled door in a deep chamfered case with a flat stone hood on brackets and 3-light casements. The left side and the rear wing to the right were added in the early 19th century and include 12-pane and 16-pane sash windows. The interior was not accessible during the survey in May 1986, but it is reported to contain chamfered beams and an 18th-century rear drawing room. The farmhouse was acquired by the Whitaker family of clothiers in the 18th century.
