Description

Hinton Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 16th century, with additions and alterations made in the late 17th century and early 19th century. It is constructed of rubble and brick, featuring a rendered front wall. The building has a three-room plan, primarily from the late 17th century, which includes remnants from the 16th century, with a fourth room added to the south in the early 19th century. There is a north gable stack and a stack on the rear wall.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a dentilled cornice. On the first floor, there are three windows, with the right end being blank. Two mid-19th century horizontally sliding sashes with eight panes flank a two-light casement. On the ground floor, to the right, there is a French window opening from the early 19th century room, and to the left, two windows flank a central entrance. The left side features a three-light late 20th century casement, while the right side has an 18-pane horizontally sliding sash with ovolo glazing bars. The entrance is topped by a flat canopy with a moulded cornice supported by scrolled brackets, and it features a six-panelled door within a wooden surround.

On the rear wall, there is a doorway with chamfered jambs and a four-centred head, all made of stone, set in a contemporary stone wall from the 16th century, although the first floor has been rebuilt. Inside, there are some fragments of reset 17th century panelling in the entrance hall, and an open well staircase with turned balusters from the mid-18th century, which is likely to have been reset.
