Description
Sykes Cottage is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of rubble and timber, featuring wattle-and-daub infill and a stone slate roof. The building consists of two rooms and two roof bays, with a stack located at the north end that has an adjoining spiral staircase. The entrance is situated in the west wall of the south room, which is recessed from the eaves line.
The east front, facing the road, is one storey high and has an attic lit by a raked top dormer positioned off centre to the right. To the left, there is an off-centre 2-light 20th-century casement window, and a straight joint can be seen where the rubble wall of the stack meets the right end. The framing is visible only in the left bay of this wall on the upper part, consisting of two square panels high.
