Description

Trenant Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. It features a combination of rubble and timber-frame construction, with wattle-and-daub infill and some areas partially rendered. The building is arranged in an L-shape, with wings extending to the north and west. The north/south wing contains a floored hall with two roof bays and a lean-to kitchen to the north. The east/west wing has an upper floor framed in two bays and a stack at the junction with an adjoining staircase, along with a large brick stack at the front of the kitchen.

The east front of the farmhouse has two storeys and an attic in the east/west cross wing, featuring a two-light casement window in the gable, a three-light casement on the first floor, and an entrance with a wood frame and a ledged door. There is a battered 19th-century buttress to the right. The hall range is one storey with an attic, lit by a gabled dormer, and has a three-light window to the left with ovolo mullions and a square label. The entrance has a gabled canopy supported by wooden posts, and to the right is a two-light metal casement window. A four-light ovolo mullioned window is located on the rear wall of the hall. On the south wall of the east/west wing, there is a three-light window on the ground floor with diamond mullions. The framing is not visible externally as it is covered by render. Inside, the hall features chamfered ceiling beams with pyramid stops.
