Description
This is a terrace of four cottages located at 70-76 Hill Corner Road in Chippenham, dating from the mid to late 19th century and restored around 1990. The cottages are built from limestone rubble with brick quoins and dressings, topped with a swept stone slate roof featuring elaborate brick ridge stacks on the party walls. Each cottage has a single-unit plan with a forward-facing gable and C20 rear extensions.
The exterior is two storeys high, with segmental brick arches above the openings. The windows and doors are from the 20th century, with single-light windows in the attics and two-light windows on the lower floors. There are also 20th-century stone-slated gabled porches supported by square timber columns, with the two central cottages sharing a porch. The returns have similar windows, and the ground floor features canted bays with stone-slated hipped roofs. The interior has not been inspected.
