Description
Barrow Farmhouse is a 16th-century farmhouse constructed from timber frame and rubble stone, topped with a concrete tile roof and featuring end stacks. It stands two storeys high with an attic, which includes a pair of leaded casement windows in a sloping dormer. The main front of the house showcases close-studding in three tiers between the rubble stone ends, with rubble stone infill. Each floor has two leaded triple casements with iron opening lights, and there is a rubble plinth at the base. The rear of the farmhouse is similar to the front but includes a gabled eaves dormer. An addition at the north end has a roof that slopes down low over a brick front, which overlaps the original range. This section features a plank door flanked by a leaded casement pair on each side, with a rubble stone wall on the north side and at the rear, which also has a triple casement on each floor. The farmhouse is frequently mentioned in the diaries of Francis Kilvert.
