Description

The Old School is a former school building constructed in 1844 for Reverend R. Ashe of Langley House. It is built from squared rubble stone with ashlar dressings and features a stone slate roof, coped gables, and a stack at the south end. The building is single storey and designed in a Tudor style with a T-plan layout. The main range includes three three-light windows with pointed heads, hoodmoulds, and leaded lights. The cross wing has a four-centred arched doorway with a hoodmould, a two-light window with a hoodmould on the first floor, the Ashe arms above, and the date carved under the apex saddlestone. On the north side, there is a ground floor single light window and a two-light window, both with hoodmoulds, as well as a two-light window in a dormer gable on the first floor. The school closed in 1975 and is associated with Reverend Francis Kilvert.
