Description

Avon House is a farmhouse that has been converted into offices, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with freestone quoins and has a rendered front. The roof is covered with concrete tiles and features stone coping and moulded ashlar stacks on four gable ends. The building has an L-shaped plan with a service wing at the rear right.

The exterior is two storeys high and has a four-window range. The left side of the building is lower and features cyma-moulded stone mullions and hoodmoulds above three-light stone-mullioned windows, which have 20th-century casements (with two-light windows on the left return). The main block has plain stone-mullioned windows on the first floor, including a three-light window on the left and two two-light windows on the right. There is a datestone reading "B.E.E.1701" to the left of the central doorway, which has a stone cyma-moulded architrave. This doorway is flanked by 20th-century four-light bay windows with concrete pent roofs. The right return features two- and three-light windows with 20th-century glazing, including first-floor windows on the right that have mullions. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have been altered.
