6/82 R & M Cochran and house adjoining to right

GV II

Two houses and shop in row. C18. Coursed and square limestone, plain tile roof. Long narrow frontage and two deep back wings. Two storeys, 4+2 windows. At ground floor a broad double-fronted shop front of mid C19 with slender cast iron colonnettes to 4 vertical lights and return, each side of central recessed glazed door and all to flat canopy over frieze and cornice; small stone stall- board. Heads of lights very flat arches formed in cast iron; to the right a former door, now a glazed opening. Right half has a broad door with 2 fielded horizontal panels under a built-in 4-centred glazed head, with flat hood on moulded consoles, moulded architrave. 16-pane sash set in wider opening to wood lintel with beaded edge far right. First floor has four 16-pane and 2 margin- pane sashes. Hipped dormer, extreme left with 15-pane sash and extreme right 2-light casement. Large square brick stack to right gable; this gable rendered. To far left is a blocked opening originally a through-way. A partic- ularly good shop-front, and reasonable survival of the whole facade. Interior not inspected.
