R And M Cochran And House Adjoining To Right

R and M Cochran and the house adjoining to the right are two houses and a shop in a row, built in the 18th century. They are constructed from coursed and square limestone with a plain tile roof. The building has a long narrow frontage and two deep back wings, standing two storeys high with a total of six windows on the front: four on the first floor and two on the ground floor.

The ground floor features a broad double-fronted shop front from the mid-19th century, supported by slender cast iron colonnettes that frame four vertical lights and a central recessed glazed door, all beneath a flat canopy with a frieze and cornice. There is a small stone stall-board beneath the shop front. The heads of the lights have very flat arches made of cast iron. To the right of the shop front, there is a former door that has been converted into a glazed opening. The right half of the building has a broad door with two fielded horizontal panels, topped by a built-in 4-centred glazed head and a flat hood supported by moulded consoles, along with a moulded architrave. There is also a 16-pane sash window set in a wider opening with a beaded edge on the far right.

On the first floor, there are four 16-pane sash windows and two margin-pane sashes. The extreme left features a hipped dormer with a 15-pane sash, while the extreme right has a two-light casement. A large square brick stack is located on the right gable, which is rendered. To the far left, there is a blocked opening that was originally a through-way. The shop front is particularly notable, and the overall facade has been reasonably well preserved. The interior has not been inspected.
