Description
Cross House is a house located on Salisbury Street, which is part of a row of buildings. The front of the house dates from the 19th and 20th centuries, but the rear may date back to the 18th century or earlier. The structure is made of squared and coursed limestone, with rubble at the back and a small brick extension. It has a slate roof and stands two storeys tall with an attic, featuring two windows that are all from the 20th century. A prominent hipped slate dormer with glazed cheeks from the 19th century is also present. The door, located on the far left, is from the 20th century and includes an overlight, a pediment-like hood, and flush voussoirs around the openings. There is a stone boot scraper by the entrance and a large brick chimney stack on the right side. The back of the house is more complex, featuring a two-storey wing with a good two-light paned casement window on the first floor. A lower continuation includes a louvred light, followed by a small brick gabled extension. The entire property appears to have been used for some form of workshop or commercial activity connected to the house front, which is mainly noted for its group value.
