Description

This is an 18th-century shop and house located at the end of a row in St James's Street, South Petherton. The building is constructed of ham stone rubble, with the front face rendered and colourwashed. It has a thatched roof with a plain gable on the north side, a south abutment, and a brick chimney stack.

The building is two storeys high with an attic, and has two bays. The upper floor features two three-light casement windows of an early design, each with an iron-framed central opening light. The ground floor has simple display windows: the first bay has a three-light window with mullions, and the second bay a square bay window with a 1+3+1 light arrangement, matching the mullioned window. A part-glazed door sits between these windows. A 20th-century door recessed and accessed by three steps, alongside two small casement windows, are located on the north gable. A rendered extension is present at the rear. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
