Description
The South and East boundary walling and gates of the Coke Memorial Methodist Church were built in 1881. The walling is made of cut and squared ham stone with ashlar dressings, and features cast-iron gates. Along Palmer Street, the wall varies in height between 600mm and 300mm, topped with stepped coping stones. There is a recess for a seat towards the south-east corner, which has a quarter-circle curve. At each end of this wall, there are square ashlar piers with moulded plinths and caps, along with pairs of cast-iron gates that have Gothic style decoration. The wall continues along North Street, slightly higher, constructed from rubble stone with coping. This boundary walling and gates enhance the setting of the Coke Memorial Church and contribute to the overall streetscape at this significant corner location.
