Description

Neston Primary School and The Old School House, dated 1861, is a school and school-teacher's house constructed from coursed rubble stone with slate roofs. The school, located on the left, is a long single-storey building featuring an ashlar bellcote at the west end. It has flush chamfered and stopped mullion windows. The west end includes an upper circular light and a ground floor door set in a moulded pointed arch, with a 2-light window beneath a relieving arch to the right. The south front displays a 3-light window, a large eaves stack over a lean-to with a cusped light on the south wall, and a pointed-arched doorway at the east end, along with two 3-light windows and a large outside stack. There is also a later rear wing. The Old School House, situated to the right, has a 'T'-plan and is two storeys high. The crosswing on the left features a stack on the west roof slope and a gable with an upper sash window beneath a pointed relieving arch, along with a ground floor sash window and door under a segmental relieving arch. The wing to the right has a ground floor sash window with a segmental relieving arch. All openings are chamfered and stopped, with roll-moulded lintels.
