Description
The front gateway to Idmiston Manor, dating from the 16th to 17th century, is a free-standing arched structure made of limestone. It features piers that support a four-centred arch, which is rebated to accommodate the gate. Above the arch is a low-pitched gable with double offsetting copings and three raised ball finials. Each face of the gateway displays a mantled coat of arms in relief, representing the Rowbach and Whitney families. The mouldings of the gate are similar to those found in the internal fireplaces of the manor house. On either side of the gateway, there are later brick walls with stone copings, which match the length of the front elevation of the house.
