Description

The gateway to the front of Manor Farm dates from the mid-16th century and is constructed of limestone ashlar in a Renaissance style. It features a moulded square-headed opening flanked by pilasters with egg and dart moulded capitals. Above the opening is a plain frieze leading to a cornice that supports pilasters beneath a pediment. This pediment has a recessed panel displaying the Thynne lion rampant. Attached to either side of the gateway are dwarf brick walls topped with weathered stone coping. There is a suggestion that this gateway may have been part of a larger house, with its foundations lying beneath the front garden of the Manor Farmhouse.
