Description

St Mary's Chapel and the attached Cottage, sometimes referred to as the Hermitage, is a late medieval building with 19th-century restorations, beautifully situated overlooking the town. This small T-shaped structure is constructed from coursed rubble and features stone-tiled roofs, with ashlar quoins and window dressings. The east wall contains an original Perpendicular window that is square-headed and has three lights. A small bellcote, adorned with tracery instead of bells, is located on the roof. The chapel underwent restoration in 1877, although one original canopied niche remains on the east wall inside. St Mary's Chapel and its gates are part of a group with No 12 Wine Street Terrace, and all listed buildings in Tory form a group with Budbury House and Budbury Place.
