Description

Garden Cottage is a folly cottage built in the early 19th century. It features a rubble stone construction with a tiled roof and a decorative brick stack at the south end. The building is two stories high and has a one-room plan. The east front wall and the south end wall are made of large, rough-hewn stone blocks with deep mortar joints, incorporating various fossil and quartz blocks. There is a rough projecting band at the first floor level. The windows are small iron lattice types with Tudor arched heads, with two on the ground floor and a pair on the first floor of the east front, as well as a pair on the ground floor of the south end. The rear wall is plain rubble stone and has a pair of casement windows at the first floor. The south end extends over two segmental arches and features a stone slab balcony. There is a 20th-century lean-to at the north end and a single-storey extension at the northeast.
